Lazers and Whoopeecat Help Wayward Slam Host Finals

The Home for the Wayward Poets, in conjunction with the Individual Artists of Oklahoma and Galileo restaurant announced the Slam Finals on Wednesday, May 21 at 7 pm at Galileo in historic Paseo District. The Slam was hosted by Bob 'Whoopeecat' Stevenson, slammaster from Dallas along with Colin Gilbert

The evening also featured the works of Emmy and Golden-Globe nominee Amber Tamblyn (Sisterhood of the Traveling Pants, Joan of Arcadia) and Derrick Brown. Brown is a former paratrooper for the 82nd airborne. He has performed poetry on the Tonight Show with Jay Leno and as a poet has been the opening act for rock sensations Cold War Kids and Black Mountain. Amber Tamblyn has also been nominated for an Independent Spirit Award. She has 3 books of poetry and has been performing and touring her poetry around the U.S. for years. Both are touring the country together on her Harley Davidson Motorcycle as the 'Lazers of Sexcellance' Tour.

Twelve poets competed for a chance to be in OKC's Slam team which will be traveling to Madison Wiscaonson in August to the National Poetry Slam. The top five poets will have this honor along with traveling regionally to represent OKC in various regional slams throughout the year.
