StageCraft Workshops at IAO

The March workshop was OKC area Actors Workshop in Contemporary Violence and Basic Hand to Hand Fighting—A beginner's level workshop teaching the skills you need in punching, blocking, reactions, and selling of the scene. This workshop is for all body types and any gender. For more information or email workshop@stagecombatschool.com

There is no cost for StageCraft Workshops, although donations are greatly appreciated and help defray the expense of materials.

If you'd like to teach a workshop, boy howdy are we interested in hearing from you.

For further questions, please contact Holli Kerr at 413-1795.

For the September workshop, we made a fog chiller, which is a simple device used in conjunction with a standard fog machine. The resulting product is fog that hugs the ground rather than quickly dispersing into the air, creating a haze. A haze makes for difficult shooting conditions, whereas a ground-hugging fog looks pretty cool on screen.

We also briefly explored different fog juice recipes and their applications. For example, "quick dissipating fog" is great for flash photography, while a heavier fog recipe is good for making that smoky back-room politics effect.

The June workshop focused on home-brew image stabilizing systems.
We rigged a dolly track system that evening from hardware and surplus store materials.

The July workshop featured a demonstration of how to make sugar glass.

Animate This! IV

Still from Captain Awesome, by Marty Martin

The Individual Artists of Oklahoma Gallery (IAO) at 811 North Broadway Avenue in Oklahoma City screened an explosive variety of local animated film and video with Animate This! Volume IV on Friday, January 4, 2008 at 7:00 p.m.  The screening displayed an exciting array of animation techniques and will feature work supplied by students, amateurs and professionals.

“Animate This! showcases fun and inventive footage.  The visual and thematic variety is amazing,” said IAO Executive Director Jeff Stokes.

Animate This! Volume IV included a diverse selection of narrative and experimental styles.  “Weird Oklahoma History” by Brian Waibel is an amusing collection of trivia about the state’s past.  “Train Station” by Sean P. Egan is an existential surrealist short.  “Captain Awesome” by Marty Martin is a clever superhero parody.  “Making the Grade” by Jack Patchel is an amusing blend of science fiction, superhero exploits and socio-political commentary.  An assortment of animation from students at the University of Oklahoma completed the program.
