Biting the Apple 2008—Erotica in Wonderland
Individual Artists of Oklahoma held the 17th
Annual Biting the Apple art exhibition and
parties at our fabulous gallery space on Historic
Automobile Alley on April 11 and 12.
The exhibition—which will be on view until the 25th of
April—has the theme of Erotica in Wonderland, and as the name suggests,
providing, through the artworks selected for exhibition, a "journey
down the rabbit hole."

Rainer Maria Rilke said, "Bodily Delight is a sensory experience ... it is a great, infinite learning that is given to us, acknowledge of the world, the fullness and the splendor of all knowledge." Few themes are as persuasive and relevant as the role of erotica in human culture, especially when perceptions of both what is erotic and what is art fluctuate.

Both Boticelli's angels and Mapplethorpe's photographs have been socially regarded as lewd or obscene. As time progresses and various art movements and periods replace each other, individual standards of both the audience and the artist change. In addition to erotic works and performances, IAO is interested in art that deconstructs, or investigates the mechanisms behind individual and cultural perceptions of eroticism and sexuality. Biting the Apple intends to provide a venue where artists and audiences can explore and broaden this controversial and unresolved topic.
